Until You
It was a zillion-pieced jigsaw--
How the sun rolls through the sky,
turns the day over to the moon
who hands it back, palms on fire.
How the stars just hang there,
stringless and more abundant
than all the grains of sand
on all the beaches in the world.
How we hang on, hurtling
through space at 67,000 miles an hour
on this spinning top of a planet,
raging war, eclipsing peace.
How caterpillars become butterflies,
thoughts can summon herons
and a person can be lost one day,
then snapped right into place the next.
